So, with notes in hand, Angela and I headed to Jo-Ann's and I picked a bunch of fabric. I did have to go back and exchange the denim I bought because it was stretchy and you shouldn't use stretchy fabric for a Mei Tai. Luck would have it that regular denim was on sale and I saved 21 dollars when I exchanged the stretchy. Finally, I was able to make my new carrier.
Things I learned from making this carrier:
- ...pre-wash, pre-wash, pre-wash. I washed the carrier after it was built because the dye from the denim was coming off on my hands.
- ...pre-wash, pre-wash, pre-wash. Canvas shrinks when washed--even in cold, so it is best to wash first so that the fibers tighten then go from there.
- I learned that I didn't make it too long and that I can fold up the bottom before tying it around my waist.
- make the hood and body as one...I don't think I am into the separate hood. If I make another one, maybe I won't add a hood.
First pic of the front with the hood folded up to see the back side of the hood--with the denim. The second pic is a close up of the fabric--the other photos didn't do the blue in the fabric justice--this one is a little better. The last one is showing the reverse side of the body.
